Robin Walker portrait 2021

As a solo concert organist Robin has performed in churches and concert venues across the UK, USA, Europe, New Zealand and Hong Kong.  Major London venues include St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St John’s Smith Square and Methodist Central Hall Westminster.  European venues include Helsinki Cathedral (Finland), the Pitti Palace in Florence (Italy) and Bergen Cathedral (Norway) with further concerts in Porto (Portugal), Hannau (Germany) and Gozo (Malta).

Robin’s performs music from the early Renaissance to many world premiere performances, and covers all areas of the organ’s wide repertoire.  Included in his wide repertoire are the organ works of J.S. Bach, J. Reubke’s Sonata on the 94th Psalm, the organ music of F.Mendelssohn,  J.Brahms and P.Eben.

Robin played a pivotal role in the restoration of two historic instruments, and this led to a particular interest in their repertoire.  Robin initiated the restoration of the 1734 organ of St Giles-in-the-Fields, London, and researched and recorded his disc “Byrd to Blow – the English Baroque Organ” on the finished instrument as a celebration of this repertoire.  He has since been invited to give lecture-recitals and presentations about this repertoire in the UK, Norway and the USA.

Whilst organist at the Badia Fiorentina, Florence’s (Italy) tenth century abbey church, he led the restoration of the 1558 Zefferini organ, returning it to its original condition and temperament.  He recorded “The Timecapsule” on this instrument, featuring contemporaneous music from across Europe.

Robin has worked with many composers, including Nimrod Borenstein, Frederick Frahm, John Ellis, Jyrki Linjama, Alexander Levine and most recently Andrew Downes. He has given many world premieres and recorded the works of Frederick Frahm, John Ellis and Andrew Downes for CD release.

Robin is available for recitals and will create a themed programme for your venue and instrument.  Fees vary depending on the venue, location and wishes of the promoter.

Robin has also given many concerts as organ accompanist, of soloists and choirs.  He has performed in duos with violinists Hazel Brooks and Philippa Mo, soprano Gillian Keith and ‘cellist Lesley Shrigley Blaiklock.  He has accompanied choirs in concerts ranging from Duruflé and Fauré Requiems, to organ only performances of Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s Creation.  Recently he accompanied the Ely Cathedral choirs in two services.  Robin is available for accompaniment work by invitation.

Robin has sung since his early years, as a cathedral chorister at Ripon and then during his study years in London on the freelance circuit.  He is on the deputy list for Ely and St Edmundsbury Cathedrals, has sung in the professional chorus for the London Handel Festival Passions and is a member of the Buriensi Consort based in Suffolk.
